Chen Long casts out Wei Feng in semi-final round of 2013 Badminton Asia Championships
China?s ace shuttler Chen Long stretched his winning streak in the Badminton Asia Championships and marched into the final round on Saturday, April 20, 2013.
He faced a lower ranked but talented Malaysian campaigner Wei Feng Chong who stood against him for 47 minutes.
This Men's Singles tussle proved a real test of their mental and physical fitness as both contenders challenged each other in all areas of game before concluding this match with 21-17 and 21-15 margin.
World Number two Chen Long, who also holds top spot in the tournament ranking, had a cautious approach in the beginning but then he played with an aggressive approach and locked the honour in a splendid manner.
On the other hand, young Wei Feng put an honest effort but luck was not on his side. He had to face a woeful straight-set defeat.
The match started with couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders made every effort to gain an early advantage.
They remained equal until half time and their nerve-racking tussle kept the audience glued to their chairs.
After the one-minute break, Chen Long prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies and made a significant difference on the points table.
The Chinese maestro employed all of his skills in the game and confounded his competitor. He strengthened his grip by adding many valuable points in the total.
In third quarter of the set, Chen Long looked at top of his game as he did not give his rival even a single chance to proceed and swept the table with 21-17 margin.
Next game was also played in similar manner as the Malaysian campaigner showed some signs of resilience in first half of the set but then surrendered in latter part of game.
Meanwhile, Chen Long showed consistency in his performance and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
He raised his chances of success by ruling the court just before the interval and then put his opponent under huge pressure by piling up a mountainous figure in third quarter of the set.
He registered a winning figure of 21-15 and qualified for the final of Badminton Asia Championships where his compatriot Du Pengyu is waiting for him.
